19 Aug 2015

The SCI Young Chemists’ Panel London region Undergraduate Symposium took place at Imperial College London on 4 June, hosted by Dr Silvia Díez-González, a member of the SCI Young Chemists’ Panel.

An audience of 30 attended the meeting to hear nine talks given by students from seven universities: UCL, Leicester, Imperial, Strathclyde, Queen Mary, Reading and Cambridge.

The quality of the talks was outstanding which made the job of the judges (Dr Joe Marshall from Charles River and Prof Chris Braddock from Imperial College) very difficult. In the end Fahima Idiris (pictured top right) from Queen Mary University of London was chosen as the winner for her talk entitled ‘C-H Activation in Flow’.

Undergraduate Symposium 2015James Rushworth (pictured left, with Fahima, the judges and the event organiser) from University College London was awarded the runner-up prize for his talk entitled ‘Investigating the potential role of boron compounds in prebiotic peptide synthesis’.
