In July 2009, SCI entered into a broader strategic alliance with the American Chemical Society (ACS) to advance chemistry-based knowledge and address global issues of mutual interest and benefit to our members. ‘This alliance is a great example of how we can extend our global reach through collaboration’, said ACS Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, Madeleine Jacobs. ‘We feel very good about collaborating with a premier organisation like SCI and feel good about the doors that it will open for us.’
Under the three-year term of the alliance, ACS and SCI may co-sponsor meetings on broad topics of mutual concern. In addition, ACS will extend ACS-member registration rates for some of its events to SCI members, including the ACS ProSpectives conferences and potentially, the ACS national meetings. SCI will reciprocate by extending its member registration rates to ACS members for conferences, including its Global Summits.
Both ACS and SCI will also provide reduced-rate access to conference rooms and offices at their facilities around the world on a space-available basis.
Both organisations are considering offering preferred non-member rates to one another's members for other activities, including short courses and products.
These benefits will be of particular value to SCI’s 750 US members who are business leaders, and to our younger members, many of whom are researchers. These younger members will undoubtedly welcome the reduced conference rates and may also be eligible to top these up with travel bursaries. This will further facilitate their access to international networking and knowledge exchange opportunities. ‘Collaborating with the most prominent organisation of its type in the world to tackle issues of mutual concern is a privilege for us’, says Andrew Ladds, Chief Executive of SCI 2005-10. ‘By linking with a much larger organisation, SCI will be able to operate on a far broader platform than ever before – something that is very exciting’.
