As a member organisation of the UK Chemicals Stakeholder Forum (UKCSF), SCI members are being offered the opportunity to provide feedback on the REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of Chemicals) registration process.
Defra (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) are looking for more information on businesses' experiences of the REACH registration process.
The information gathered in the survey will provide Defra with details on how the EU REACH Regulation has had an impact on UK businesses after the first registration deadline of 30 November 2010, and the second deadline of 31 May 2013, and will give a better understanding about how REACH implementation might be improved.
Defra have advised that the survey be completed by the person in your company responsible for handling REACH issues, or who has been most closely involved with fulfilling your company's REACH duties.

REACH is a European Union regulation concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of Chemicals. It came into force on 1 June 2007 and replaced a number of European Directives and Regulations with a single system.
REACH has several aims:
- To provide a high level of protection of human health and the environment from the use of chemicals.
- To make the people who place chemicals on the market (manufacturers and importers responsible for understanding and managing the risks associated with their use.)
- To allow the free movement of substances on the EU market.
- To enhance innovation in and the competitiveness of the EU chemicals industry.
- To promote the use of alternative methods for the assessment of the hazardous properties of substances eg quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSAR) and read across.
