Young researchers, those still studying for PhD and those newly graduated, can find looking for and landing a career in industry very challenging. The Fire and Materials Group are hosting a Young Researchers' Forum at the University of Bolton to help researchers showcase some of their work.
Industrial speakers from, ICL-IP Europe BV and Sherwin Williams Protective & Marine Coatings will discuss the challenges and needs of industry today and how young researchers can prepare themselves for employment in the highly competitive and the fast moving manufacturing industry.
Students will be presenting their work either by oral presentation or poster. Topics include natural fibre reinforced plastics, lignin materials as innovative flame retardants, novel multifunctional fire retardants for engineering polymers, novel coatings for PMMA and many more. The scope of research in the fire community is very wide ranging and there are some very talented young researchers for industry to capture and employ. There will be monetary prizes, sponsored by SCI, for the best presenters.
The Forum is open to members and non-members of SCI and is at the University of Bolton, which has good travel links from Manchester and the rest of the North West of England.
There will be an opportunity to tour the Fire and Materials Lab within the University and to discuss with the research staff the capabilities of the Fire Materials research group at Bolton.
This meeting will also host the SCI Fire and Materials Group AGM; the first since the reforming of the Group last year, instigated by the late Prof Dennis Price.
