Following on from the success of last year's event, the presentation of the Young Lipid Scientist Award (YLSA) 2016 continues to recognise the excellence and emerging talent in research related to lipids, in any field across the physical and life sciences and engineering, such as (but not restricted to) neuroscience, digestion and metabolism, crystallisation of triacylglycerols, functioning of phospholipid membranes, compositional analysis, processing and disease prevention.

Six shortlisted candidates will be invited to present a 15 minute oral presentation of their research at a special Young Lipids Scientist Award session held prior to the Lipids Group AGM. The winner will receive a prize of £100, a certificate and an opportunity to give an oral presentation at EuroFedLipid 2016 in Ghent, Belgium. A summary of the research of the shortlisted candidates will be displayed on the SCI website in the period prior to the event. If you are interested in applying, please submit a 300 word abstract of your research on a lipids-related theme to email@example.com by the closing date of Friday 22 April 2016.
The programme for the day can be found below:
11:00-15:45 - Young Lipid Scientist Award presentations & winner presentation, including lunch for those who have registered to attend.
15:45-16:15 - SCI Lipids Group AGM
The Lipids Group AGM will follow the Young Lipid Scientist Award session and all attendees are welcome to attend the AGM and SCI Lipids Group members are eligible to vote.
The Committee feels that this is an excellent opportunity for Lipids researchers to present their work, whilst also providing a great opportunity for networking with colleagues from academia and industry that have a common interest in oils, fats and lipids. We are very pleased to be providing this recognition to young researchers and to hear about the research they are undertaking. We look forward to continue running this award in future years.
A report on last year’s successful event can be found on the SCI website. The winner of the YLSA award last year, Nicola McCarthy, presented her research at the EuroFedLipid Congress in Florence in September 2015 and her report on the event can also be accessed via the link below.
This is a free event but please register your attendance via the link below or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. The event is open for anyone to attend including colleagues and associates of applicants and shortlisted candidates. Lunch will be provided for all those attending who book in advance.
