Organised by:

SCI's London Group

Registration Closed

This event is no longer available for registration.

Synopsis

This lecture will address the chemistry and biology of an unusual group of lipid compounds known as the prostaglandins.

It will describe how they were discovered, how their chemical structures were solved, and their biosynthetic pathways elucidated. The lecture will go on to explain why prostaglandins suddenly assumed great medical importance following the observation that aspirin could block their synthesis. It will conclude with a brief look at the synthesis and action of other unusual lipid compounds discovered in the wake of the prostaglandin 'revolution'.

Light refreshments will be served before and after the lecture.
