We will hear two presentations on the control of welding fume.
Gordon Smith, HM Specialist Inspector, Newcastle, will give an overview of how welding fume should be investigated and managed. Gordon has over 30 years' experience dealing with welding fume in industry and will discuss welding fume and control in the industries he has been involved with. Gordon is also closely involved in the revision of HSE welding guidance and will provide an update.
Gordon's talk will be followed by a presentation from John Saunders (Technical Lead, exposure measurement and control, HSL, Buxton) on welding fume using on torch extraction. John will talk about the recent developments including measurement flow rates and the draft CEN standard on measuring on-torch capture efficiency.
