Engineering Containment and Control Systems for Highly Hazardous Materials, Martin Axon, Principal Occupational Hygienist, Safebridge Consultants If not appropriately controlled, highly hazardous materials have the potential to give rise to adverse health effects in workers at very low concentrations. The adverse health effects may be due to the chemical/biological composition of these materials and in the case of nano-materials, also includes particle size. Containment and control technologies currently in use in the pharmaceutical industry will be discussed and hte potential for their application elsewhere reveiwed.
Managing Behaviour for Effective use of Containment Equipment, Mike Perry, Senior Occupational Hygienist, Safebridge Consultants While containment and control technologies continue to develop and improve, the failure of such equipment to deleiver expected performance is often related to human behaviour, and may be compounded by individual perception of risk. The challenges faced in the potent compound pharmaceutical industry in this regard will be discussed, along with some risk management approaches designed to help with this problem.
Sandwiches and Soft Drinks in the Conservatory Attendance may count towards Continuing Professional Development on any CPD schemes - including the BOHS Faculty of Occupational Hygiene's - which are self administered.
