Extracelluar vesicles (EVs), including exosomes and microvesicles, are released from almost all cell types into the biofluids and carry a variety of bio-macromolecules including proteins, mRNAs, DNA, microRNAs (miRNAS), and other non-coding RNAs. EVs are involved in physiological functions and the pathological process of different diseases. The molecular signature packaged into the EVs can be used in biomarker discovery. Additionally, EVs have attracted considerable attention as drug delivery vehicles.
The main focus of Dr Momen-Heravi's research for the past 5 years has been on studying the role of extracelluar vesicles and their cargo in the pathogenesis of different diseases and their utility as biomarkers and therapeutic agents.
