Synopsis
A meeting organized by the Professional Horticulture Group South West. The Somerset Cider Brandy Company is specialist enterprise sited amongst 160 acres of cider apple orchards and licenced to distil cider brandy since 1969. The farm overlooks the Somerset Levels and although most of the plantations were above the 2014 flood line, much of the property was inundated. The visit includes an introduction to the cider apple brandy production facility.
Established in 1851 by James Kelway the 40-acre Kelways nursery is widely known for its specialisation in peonies and iris, and exhibits at major shows. Another specialty is hardy ferns. During June Kelway's Peony Valley is a major attraction. There will also be opportunity to visit the plant-based Garden Centre.
