Urban diffuse pollution constitutes a significant water management issue under the European Union's Water Framework Directive. It is seen as a more complex and intransigent problem to deal with than agricultural diffuse pollution, involving a diverse range of pollutants from a wide variety of potential industrial and urban sources. An understanding of chemical aspects is fundamental to identifying the nature, origin and risks to health and environment as well as in the monitoring, control and treatment of contaminants. This one day event provides an opportunity to hear from leading experts tackling urban diffuse pollution and includes two workshop sessions which will addres future research needs and priorities.
All stakeholders with a responsibility or interest in water resource management, treatment and control, pollution, monitoring, and environmental protection. In particular water companies, regulators, NGOs, research organisations, academia, suppliers of sampling and analysis equipment, and land and water agencies. It will also be of interest to the chemical and pharmaceutical industry concerned with limiting the impact of their operations on the environment.
Posters are invited at no extra charge and a £100 prize will be awarded for the one judged to be the best.
